About the I-90 Allston Multimodal Project Working Groups

This year, MassDOT was awarded the “Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Grant” (RCN). The federal grant of $335.4 million will be used to advance the design and construction of the I-90 Allston Multimodal Project. This means that critical decisions must be made to progress design elements for the project and meet permitting deadlines.

MassDOT and the I-90 Allston Multimodal Project Team have decided to convene four Working Groups to focus on four critical elements of the project’s design:

  • Throat Area/ Charles River
  • Multimodal Local Street Network
  • Multimodal Local Connections
  • Rail and Transit

The purpose of the Working Groups is to hold regular, frequent meetings focused on design tasks and decision points. The goal is to prioritize design alternatives to meet permit/ grant deadlines by September 2026.

Each Working Group includes:

  • A Chair and Co-Chair from a Deciding Party affiliate
  • Partnering Parties, such as a permitting authority or a property owner
  • 10 Core Group Representatives from appropriate issue areas
