The Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Asthma Prevention and Control Program (APCP) works hard to help all people with asthma in Massachusetts to lead full, active lives. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for all Commonwealth residents with asthma and to reduce disparities in asthma outcomes. The APCP achieves this goal through collaboration with other state agencies and community partners, particularly the Massachusetts Asthma Action Partnership (MAAP) the only statewide asthma partnership in Massachusetts.
The APCP performs many activities that also support our mission, including conducting asthma surveillance, supporting and promoting state and regional partnerships, promoting guidelines-based care, evaluating and sustaining effective interventions to reduce asthma disparities in Massachusetts, promoting policies that improve asthma outcomes, supporting the primary prevention of asthma, and promoting tobacco cessation and reducing exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke.
A key area of work to help people with asthma is the Community Health Worker-led Home Visiting Program.
The Asthma Prevention and Control Program receives funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC-RFA-EH19-1902), the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA-OP-OEJ-20-02) , and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD MAHHU0045-18).
