CPR and First Responder Instructor Certification

This Guide provides instructor candidates with specific qualifications and training necessary to receive and maintain Certification as an MPTC CPR and First Responder Instructor including the four levels of a CPR and First Responder Instructor, how to apply for an instructor level with User Guides to apply for instructor certification by initiating an application in the new MPTC Acadis platform.

Level I – Basic CPR and First Responder Instructor

Qualification and requirements: 

• Must maintain a current CPR provider card
• Must attend one of the two Annual CPR/FR conference
• Must teach two (2) documented CPR or First Responder classes per year or four (4) classes during the two (2) year certification period

Failure to complete the above:

• If the instructor fails to attend one of the annual conferences and/or fails to teach the minimum number of classes, the instructor will be placed on probationary status but will still be allowed to teach classes
• If the instructor fails to attend a second consecutive annual conference and/or fails to teach the minimum number of classes during their certification period, the instructors’ certification will be suspended until the instructor makes arrangements with the program coordinator or one of the assistant program coordinators to review all materials covered during the annual conference. The instructor will also be required to show proficiency in all skills of CPR and First Responder. During a Level 1 instructors certification suspension period, the instructor will not be allowed to teach any CPR or First Responder program
• If the instructor fails to attend a third consecutive annual conference and/or fails to teach the minimum number of classes during their certification period, the instructors certification will become invalid
• Any instructors’ certification that becomes invalid must complete all Pre-Instructor qualifications and Level I – Basic Instructor procedures again.

Level II – Basic CPR/First Responder Instructor

Must teach two (2) documented CPR or First Responder classes per year or four (4) classes during the two (2) year certification period

• Must maintain a current CPR provider card
• Must attend one of the annual CPR/FR conferences

Failure to complete the above:

• If the instructor fails to attend one of the annual conferences and/or fails to teach the minimum number of classes, the instructor will be placed on probationary status. During the Level 2 Instructors’ probationary period, the instructor will not be allowed to teach at a MPTC sanctioned ROC program or a Reserve/Intermittent program. The instructor will only be allowed to teach within their own department, a neighboring community or at a community program
• If the instructor fails to attend a second consecutive annual conference and/or fails to teach the minimum number of classes during their certification period, the instructors’ certification will be suspended until the instructor makes arrangements with the program coordinator or one of the assistant program coordinators to review all materials covered during the annual conference. The instructor will also be required to show proficiency in all skills of CPR and First Responder. During a Level 2 instructors certification suspension period, the instructor will not be allowed to teach any CPR or First Responder program
• If the instructor fails to attend a third consecutive annual conference and / or fails to teach the minimum number of classes during their certification period, the instructors certification will become invalid
• Any instructors’ certification that becomes invalid must again complete all Pre-Instructor qualifications, Level 1 – Basic Instructor procedures and Level 2 Instructor Procedures

Level III – Basic CPR and First Responder Instructor

• Must maintain a current CPR provider card
• Must attend one of the Annual CPR/FR Conferences
• Must teach two (2) documented CPR or First Responder classes per year or four (4) classes during the two (2) year certification period

• Any instructors’ certification that becomes invalid must again complete all Pre-Instructor qualifications, Level 1 – Basic Instructor procedures, Level 2 - Assistant Instructor Procedures and Level 3 – Lead Instructor Procedures

Level IV – Master CPR and First Responder Instructor

• Must maintain a current CPR provider card
• Must attend one of the annual CPR/FR conferences
• Must attend at least fifty (50) percent of the CPR/FR Advisory Group Meetings unless excused by the program coordinator

Failure to complete the above:

• If the instructor fails to attend one of the annual conferences and/or fails to teach the minimum number of classes, the instructor will be placed on probationary status. During the Level 4 Instructors’ probationary period, the instructor will not be allowed to teach a MPTC CPR/FR Instructor Program, at a MPTC sanctioned ROC program or a Reserve/Intermittent program. The instructor will only be allowed to teach within their own department, a neighboring community or at a community program
• If the instructor fails to attend a second consecutive annual conference and/or fails to teach the minimum number of classes during their certification period, the instructors’ certification will be suspended until the instructor makes arrangements with the program coordinator or one of the assistant program coordinators to review all materials covered during the annual conference. The instructor will also be required to show proficiency in all skills of CPR and First Responder. During a Level 4 instructors certification suspension period, the instructor will not be allowed to teach any CPR or First Responder program
• If the instructor fails to attend a third consecutive annual conference and/or fails to teach the minimum number of classes during their certification period, the instructors certification will become invalid
• Any Level four (4) instructor’s certification that becomes invalid will be removed from the MPTC CPR/FR Advisory Committee
• Any instructors’ certification that becomes invalid must again complete all Pre-Instructor qualifications, Level 1 – Basic Instructor procedures, Level 2 - Assistant Instructor Procedures, Level 3 – Lead Instructor Procedures and Level 4 – Master Instructors Procedure
