MassTaxConnect Maintenance This Weekend

Maintenance is scheduled for MassTaxConnect on Sunday, July 16, from 12:00 AM to 4:30 AM. Any MassTaxConnect functions that require users to log in will not be available at that time. All services will be available before and after the maintenance window. Please plan accordingly.

Save the Dates – Sales Tax Holiday Weekend 2023

Dates have been set for this year’s Sales Tax Holiday Weekend. Mark your calendars for August 12 and August 13, 2023. Most retail items of up to $2,500, purchased in Massachusetts for personal use on these two days, will be exempt from sales tax.

September 15 Filing Deadline to Receive Excess Tax Revenue Refund

If you have not yet filed your 2021 income tax return and had a tax liability for that year, you have until September 15, 2023 to file the return to be eligible to receive the excess tax revenue refund. For those who are eligible, you can expect to receive your refund automatically approximately one month after filing.

Summer Reminder: Collect and Submit Room Occupancy Excise Taxes

Summer is here and short-rental activity is way up. If you have a short-term rental in Massachusetts, remember to collect and submit the proper taxes, and any fees based on your property’s location. For example, for properties in Boston, Worcester, Cambridge, Springfield, West Springfield, and Chicopee, you would collect an additional 2.75% tax for convention center funding. Other taxes and fees may also apply. Learn all about the state and local fees on the Room Occupancy Excise Tax page

Notify Us of Your Closed Business to Avoid Collection Activity

Closing a business is hard, but it is important for us to be notified when you do. Failure to notify us can result in collection activity. For example, when returns aren’t filed on time, a Notice of Failure to File is issued. When there’s no response, tax may be assessed based on your filing history. Collection actions can follow. Please be sure that doesn’t happen by closing your tax accounts on MassTaxConnect as of your business’s shutdown date
