Sneak Peek – DRAFT 2022 tax forms are available for review

It’s never too early to get prepared for another tax filing season. The DRAFT TY2022 tax forms, for personal income tax and corporate tax, are available on the DOR website. Forms are added as available, so check back if you don’t see the one you’re looking for. If you have comments or questions, send them to dorforms@dor.state.ma.us.

IRS e-file shutdown on the horizon

Every year the IRS shuts down the Modernized e-File (“MeF”) system for maintenance. This year, the shutdown begins on Saturday, November 26, 2022 to prepare the system for the upcoming filing season. During the shutdown, DOR will not receive any state or federal e-filed returns. Paper forms can be filed during this time until electronic filing reopens. Although the IRS does not have a firm date for reopening MeF for personal income, it generally occurs in mid- to late January.

Businesses: Get ready to certify for your property tax exemptions

The application for the Annual Certification of Entity Tax Status is available and open until the April 1, 2023 deadline. Each year, a list is compiled from the applications of corporations, and businesses treated as corporations, for review by Boards of Assessors throughout the state to determine specific property tax exemptions. You’ll find more details on the information page.

Now Showing: 1099 and W-2 filing tutorial

New to DOR Studios! We recently published a how-to tutorial for employers filing annual 1099 and W-2 bulk reports. It’s similar to the process for filing those reports with the IRS. So, if you’re familiar with the IRS’ instructions, this should be a refresher. Head over to our YouTube channel to watch the video.
