Family Resolutions Specialty Court: Phases 1-3 flowcharts

Learn more about the three phases of Family Resolutions Specialty Court (FRSC).

The Family Resolutions Specialty Court (FRSC) is a voluntary program that helps divorcing and separating parents work through their problems while reducing conflict and keeping everyone's best interest in mind. FRSC is located at the Hampshire Probate and Family Court and is available to parents living in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties.

Interested parents and lawyers should contact the Hampshire Probate and Family Court’s FRSC Legal Coordinator Miriam Krell Bourke at miriam.bourke@jud.state.ma.us.

Phase 1: Starting in FRSC

Phase 1 includes the Intake meeting and paperwork, the Initial Parenting Consultation with the Family Consultant, a First Team Meeting, and the First Court Conference for the parents to meet their Judge.

Phase 2: Working toward agreement

Phase 2 includes parent meetings with the Family Consultant, the mediator and their attorneys (if any). Parents attend the online Co-parenting Education program and connect with any community resources. When substantial progress has been made, or further support is needed, a second Team Meeting is held to review the status, discuss next steps, and schedule a second Court Conference.

Phase 3: Moving to finality

Phase 3 brings the case to Final Judgment.

When there is a full settlement, the Team supports the parents in finalizing their Agreement, updating Financial Statements, and completing Co-parent Education requirements. The Judge reviews and approves the Agreement at the Final Court Conference and enters a Judgment closing the matter.

When there is not a full settlement, the Team supports the parents in finalizing any partial Agreement, updating Financial Statements, and completing Co-parent Education requirements. The Team also helps the parents prepare a Planning Report with a list of unagreed items for the Judge to decide. At the Planning Court Conference, the Team and Judge plan for the Final Court Conference where the Judge will hear from the parents and make decisions. The Judge enters a Judgment closing the matter.
