Help your forest do more
Who we are
ForestsWork partners with private landowners like you to make the most out of your forest today and tomorrow. We provide you expert advice for stewarding your forested land in a way that works for you, your family, and the community.
Why it matters
There’s value in your forested land and stewardship raises that value. It boosts our economy, protects our wildlife, and fights climate change. What you choose to do with your forest has a big impact on our collective future. And we’re here to help you make choices that benefit you and all of us.
Programs and services
We offer the expertise, best practices, and incentives to create a forest management approach that delivers the value you and your community deserve. Together, we can make the most of our forests and create a better planet for generations to come.
Forest Stewardship plan
A Forest Stewardship Plan supports and encourages private forest landowners' efforts to manage, enjoy, and care for their land using a long-term, goal-oriented approach. Add on components such as Foresters for the Birds and Climate Forestry programs are also available.
Foresters for the Birds
The Foresters for the Birds program, funded through the ForestsWork initiative, and in partnership with Mass Audubon, provides technical and financial assistance for landowners to work with a consulting forester to evaluate existing and potential habitat for suites of bird species depending on your ecoregion and your management goals.
Climate Forestry
Climate Forestry is a DCR program providing cost share assistance to landowners to hire a qualified consulting forester to conduct a climate-focused forest assessment on their land. Consulting foresters must attend a series of trainings to become certified to provide this service to landowners.
Estate Planning
Planning for what happens to your land after your lifetime is key to good stewardship. Estate planning helps ensure your land supports your financial and personal goals.
