Massachusetts requires all physicians and hospitals treating or diagnosing patients with cancer to report demographic, diagnostic, and treatment information to the MACR. This section includes tools and resources for reporting.
The MACR follows reporting standards set by the Center for Disease Control’s National Program for Cancer Registries standards (NPCR) and the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program. The MACR is a member of the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR).

Importance of Reporting
Cancer is the leading cause of death in Massachusetts since 2006. In contrast, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US. With timely and complete data from hospitals and healthcare facilities, the MACR reports on cancer trends across the state. These reports inform public health programs and efforts. This information can also advance the future of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
