Massachusetts Cancer Registry Edit Sets

These are the current Massachusetts Cancer Registry (MACR) edits. They may be used with software to check the quality of cancer abstracts before submission to the Cancer Registry.  Download a compressed file, extract the edits metafile, and save it to a location that is accessible to your software. 

Beginning with diagnosis year 2024, the MACR implemented a modified records program. This will allow the MACR to receive updated information on cancer cases previously reported. The Modified Records Trigger List can be downloaded here.

Hospital Scan Edits (Metafile)

The Massachusetts Cancer Registry (MACR) currently has two metafiles that can be downloaded from here. The metafiles should be configured into your registry software and the MA edit set selected.  The edits set that is built into the metafile helps to check the quality of cancer abstracts before submission to the MACR.  Download a compressed file, extract the edits metafile, and save it to a location that is accessible to your software vendor. 

For those facilities that want to also run their submission file through GenEdits to review, please reach out to Nancy Klein, Manager of Operations, via email at nancy.klein@mass.gov for additional guidance.
