Important Information for Motor Vehicle Damage Appraisers (“MVDA”) about License Renewals as of 2022

The Division of Insurance transitioned to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ (“NAIC”) State Based Systems (SBS) on March 18, 2022 for licensing and other regulatory purposes.

Please note the following specific impact on the 2022 and later Motor Vehicle Damage Appraiser license renewal process for existing MVDA’s, who must renew their Massachusetts licenses ONLINE on or before June 30, 2022:

All motor vehicle damage appraiser license numbers have been changed to the licensee’s National Producer Number (NPN).

SBS has retained record of these original MVDA license numbers as the “Legacy license number”, but your NPN is your official license number going forward.

If you don’t know your NPN, you may look it up on State Based Systems (SBS)

Beginning with this 2022 MVDA renewal cycle, all MVDA license renewals and related payments will be processed electronically via the National Insurance Producer Registry

Once you have completed your MVDA renewal, you will be able to print a copy of your MVDA license at SBS. Look for the “Licensing Quick Center” at this link for easy access to the basic licensing functions available to you in SBS.
