MassDOT’s Industrial Rail Access Program (IRAP) supports local economic development through investments in freight rail access. The program now provides grant funding for up to 80% of eligible project costs, with a maximum contribution of $700,000.

Eligibility

The following recipients are eligible for IRAP funding assistance:

  • Municipalities
  • Freight railroads
  • Rail shippers or receivers

IRAP projects are limited to core rail infrastructure that either establishes or restores freight rail access. This could include track, ties, drainage, or site improvements.

IRAP’s application period is active and open for submissions. Starting this year, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed quarterly. More information regarding application materials and the submission process is available on the Apply for IRAP funding webpage.
