Section 23J-1/2

An applicant for licensure as a lactation consultant shall:

  • (i) be not less than 18 years of age;
  • (ii) have submitted a completed application upon a form and in such manner as the board prescribes, accompanied by applicable fees;
  • (iii) have met the education and clinical standards established for international board-certified lactation consultants by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners or its successor organization
  • (iv) have passed an examination adopted or administered by the board; provided, however, that the board may adopt a standardized national exam, including the examination required for certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners or a successor or equivalent entity; and
  • (v) have completed such other requirements as may be prescribed by the board.
