Massachusetts Registered Apprenticeship for jobseekers

Whether you're embarking on a new career path or seeking a change, registered apprenticeships offer a route to a rewarding job, all while providing invaluable hands-on experience.

Overview

As an apprentice in Massachusetts, you’ll earn a paycheck while gaining the skills and experience required in your chosen career through a combination of:

  • On-the-job training: Gain hands-on experience while learning from skilled, experienced professionals.
  • Related classroom instruction: Build the technical knowledge and skills needed to advance in your occupation.

The length of an apprenticeship varies depending on your chosen career pathway. Registered apprenticeship opportunities are available across Massachusetts in a wide range of industries, including:

  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Healthcare
  • Information technology
  • Life sciences
  • Hospitality
  • Financial services
  • Clean energy
  • Early childhood education

Registered apprenticeship programs are sponsored by employers or organizations that coordinate training with participating employers. As a registered apprentice, you become part of an employer’s workforce from day one, earning wages while developing valuable skills and gaining hands-on experience. Upon successfully completing your on-the-job training and related classroom instruction, you earn an industry-recognized credential that demonstrates your qualifications. Many apprentices continue working with their employers after completing their programs, building on their training and advancing their careers.

Eligibility

Registered apprenticeships are open to people at many stages of their careers, including:

  • High school graduates entering the workforce
  • Adults changing careers
  • Veterans transitioning to civilian employment
  • College students and graduates looking for hands-on experience
  • Workers who want to build new skills or advance in their field

Program requirements vary by occupation and employer. If you are interested in becoming an apprentice, contact your local MassHire Career Center for more information or to ask any questions.
