In anticipation of the approval of a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine, Massachusetts has an active inter-agency working group developing plans to ensure an equitable and speedy distribution to Massachusetts communities. Distribution of a vaccine will be based on guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
COVID-19 Vaccine Advisory Group
To assist with the state’s planning, the Administration has named a COVID-19 vaccine Advisory Group comprised of medical professionals, public health experts, elected officials, community leaders and infectious disease specialists to advise the Administration, including the Department of Public Health (DPH) and the COVID-19 Command Center, on communication, distribution and equity issues relating to a COVID-19 vaccine.
Massachusetts Interim Draft COVID-19 Vaccine Plan
On September 16, the CDC released its COVID-19 Vaccination Program Interim Playbook and template, requiring all U.S. states to submit an Interim Draft COVID-19 Vaccine Plan by October 16, 2020.
As the CDC continues to update the playbook with new information, the MA plan will be updated accordingly, culminating in a final detailed implementation plan once a COVID-19 vaccine becomes available.
Please note: CDC required each state plan to be clearly labeled Interim Draft as a watermark to indicate this is an initial plan with details to be added as new information regarding a vaccine becomes available.
Vaccine information from CDC
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has added vaccine-specific content to its extensive COVID-19 website. CDC’s resources include information on vaccination planning, how vaccine safety is being ensured, and frequently asked questions. These resources are intended to clarify how COVID-19 vaccine recommendations will be made and how the vaccines will be monitored for safety.
