Public Assessor Option (PAO)

An additional option for MassHealth members to access clinical assessments for Adult Day Health, Adult Foster Care, Group Adult Foster Care, and Personal Care Attendant services.

What is the Public Assessor Option?

Long-term services and supports (LTSS) can help people live safely at home and in their community by supporting their health needs and daily activities.

Beginning October 1, 2026, MassHealth members with MassHealth Standard or CommonHealth can choose to use the MassHealth Long-Term Services and Supports Public Assessor Option to complete an assessment.

An assessment is a review where a nurse talks with you about your needs and helps determine whether you qualify for certain long-term services and supports.

What services can I be assessed for through the PAO?

The PAO is an additional option for members requesting an assessment or interested in finding out whether they qualify for:

  • Adult Day Health (ADH)
  • Adult Foster Care (AFC)
  • Group Adult Foster Care (GAFC)
  • Personal Care Attendant (PCA) Program
