QCML Criteria for Glass Beads

This criteria was qualified by MassDOT as of the date posted: January 05, 2026

For Glass Beads to be listed on the Qualified Construction Materials List (QCML), a product must meet the requirements of Subsection M7.01.07 of MassDOT’s Standard Specifications including all Material and Testing Requirements outlined herein.

Material Properties

The manufacturer of the Glass Beads must certify that the product is in accordance with Subsections M7.01.07 of MassDOT’s Standard Specifications.

The product must meet the requirement of AASHTO M 247 tested in accordance with AASHTO T 346 and additional requirements listed in M7.01.07.

Submittal and Testing Requirements

MassDOT Research & Materials (RMS) shall evaluate the Independent Lab Test Results. The following criteria must be met as part of the product submission: 

• Manufacturer shall provide a Certificate of Compliance (COC) to MassDOT stating that the material complies with AASHTO M 247 requirements, and tested in accordance with AASHTO T 346 and all applicable MassDOT requirements listed in M7.01.07.

Manufacturer requesting approval of Glass Beads shall furnish to MassDOT RMS the following:

• Manufacturer shall submit material for testing on all Batch Numbers intended to be supplied to MassDOT. Send material to:

QCML Listing, Expiration, and Re-Qualification

Once qualified, the Glass Bead Manufacturer and batch numbers will be listed on the MassDOT QCML. The product shall remain on the qualified list unless the following occurs: 

• MassDOT RMS determines that the product no longer meets the minimum requirements.

A written request for re-qualification must be submitted to the Department at least 60 days prior to the expiration date to remain on the QCML.
