QCML Criteria for Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds for Curing (M4.12.4.A)

For Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds for Curing to be listed on the Qualified Construction Materials List (QCML), products must meet the requirements of Subsection M9.06.5 of MassDOT’s Standard Specifications including all Material and Testing Requirements outlined herein. This includes a requirement for a product to be evaluated by AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions.

Material Properties

Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds for Curing must meet the requirements of Subsection M4.12.4.A as well as the following material properties:

  • Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds for Curing must meet the requirements of ASTM C309
  • The product must be either Type 1 or 2.
    • When Type 1 the product shall contain a fugitive dye.

Submittal and Testing Requirements

AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions Testing Requirements:

The following criteria must be met as part of the product submission.

  • Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds for Curing shall be evaluated by the AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions audit program.
  • AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions shall find that the product is in compliance with the Concrete Curing Compounds Work Plan.

MassDOT Testing Requirements:

Manufacturers may request MassDOT evaluation once they have completed the AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions testing requirements.

MassDOT shall perform verification testing on Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds for Curing.

  • The manufacturer shall submit a one (1) quart sample of the product.
  • The manufacturer must certify that the product is in accordance with M9.06.5.

QCML Listing, Expiration, and Re-Qualification

Once qualified, the Liquid Membrane-Forming Compound for Curing will be listed on the MassDOT QCML. The product shall remain on the qualified list for three (3) years unless one of the following occurs:

  • If the manufacturer does not have the product reevaluated by AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions in accordance with the AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions Concrete Curing Compounds Work Plan.
  • If the product’s technology changes.
    • If the product formulation or technology changes, the Manufacturer shall notify MassDOT RMS.
    • Manufacturers must resubmit products to AASHTO Product Evaluation & Audit Solutions for testing upon any reformulation of the product.
  • MassDOT RMS determines that the product no longer meets the minimum requirements.

A written request for re-qualification must be submitted to the Department at least 60 days prior to the expiration date to remain on the QCML.
