Station B-1, SP Lee, originated in 1922 as the inaugural substation of Troop B, earning its B-1 designation. Constructed in 1931 on Route 20, the current station replaced an East Lee barn that previously accommodated horses on its ground floor and troopers in the loft above. Serving the southwest corner of Massachusetts, this station delivers police services to the inhabitants and visitors of southern Berkshire County. It is geographically flanked by New York State to the west and Connecticut to the south. The station's coverage spans 16 towns, making up 550 square miles, including 125 miles of state highway. In seven towns within this area, the State Police serve as the principal law enforcement body. The jurisdiction also includes 31,500 acres of state forests and parks, in addition to nearly 15,000 acres of the Appalachian Trail.
