Facilities
Constructed in 1931, Station B-6, Northampton, was established to replace the outdated Western Massachusetts State Police outpost, previously housed in a repurposed residence and barn in Leeds. This modern facility now operates as both the headquarters for Troop B and the SP Northampton sub-station. Located conveniently on Routes 5 & 10, it also offers straightforward access to Interstate Route 91.
The introduction of the Interstate highway in the 1960s expanded the station's responsibilities to include highway patrol duties. Serving an area of 400 square miles, Station B-6 caters to 17 cities and towns. Additionally, it extends its services to six colleges and universities, notably the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, which has an annual enrollment of 24,000 students.
