MPTC Instructors

Interested individuals need to notify their Agency Heads before pursuing MPTC Instructor training and certification. Below is a brief summary of training requirements to become an MPTC certified instructor.

1. Five (5) years law enforcement experience
2. Resume
3. Completing an academic or tactical instructor development course
4. Completing each topic’s instructor training
5. Applying to the MPTC for certification to teach
6. If applicable, applying for an Active State Fiscal Contract in order to be paid when training on behalf of the MPTC
7. Must be in compliance with the MPTC Instructor Code of Conduct

Separate from the instructor certification process is the process by which the MPTC pays some instructors to provide training. This requires the instructor to enter into a contract with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to provide instructional services. Every instructor contracted (paid) by the MPTC for instructional services rendered must have an active (unexpired) Instructor Contract on file at the MPTC Headquarters on or before the date they begin teaching.

Failure to complete the Instructor Contract may result in nonpayment for services rendered.

Contracted Instructors teaching on behalf of the MPTC are required to enter hours worked on a weekly basis in SSTA to be paid. You will identify the location and class taught from a drop-down menu, and then enter the total number of hours worked each day.

SSTA is available for time entry from a computer, tablet or mobile phone. SSTA allows you to access your tax forms, access pay stubs, update your direct deposit information and change your address.
