BELLINGHAM — A two-alarm fire tore through a Temi Road home in the overnight hours, tragically claiming two residents’ lives, said Bellingham Fire Chief William R. Miller, Bellingham Police Chief Ken Fitzgerald, State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine, and Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
“On behalf of the Bellingham Fire Department, I want to express our heartfelt condolences to the family that lost two loved ones today,” said Chief Miller. “This is a sad day for them and our community.”
The Bellingham Fire Department responded to 15 Temi Road for a report of a house fire at about 12:40 this morning. Chief Miller, who was first on scene, observed heavy fire coming through the roof. Additional companies immediately made entry to attack the fire and search for occupants.
Firefighters rescued two older adults from the home. They were transported from the scene but later pronounced deceased. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death. No other injuries were reported.
Fire spread rapidly through the structure, causing serious damage. Firefighters battled the flames for about 40 minutes before bringing it under control. They were able to protect nearby homes from damage.
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Bellingham Fire Department, Bellingham Police Department, State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Police assigned to the Worcester DA’s office. They are supported by the Department of Fire Services’ Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit.
The fire departments of Franklin, Hopkinton, Hopedale, Milford, Westborough, Medway, Mendon, and Norfolk provided mutual aid at the scene. The DFS Special Operations Team and Providence Canteen provided rehab services to support firefighter health and safety.
