Boston — The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced more than $194,000 in grants to local governments across Massachusetts to develop local energy projects. The Department of Energy Resources (DOER) will award 12 Municipal Energy Technical Assistance (META) grants to municipalities, regional school districts, and water and wastewater districts to help manage projects or conduct studies to support the development of clean energy projects.

“Providing technical support for local governments as they plan for investment in clean energy and lowering energy costs is a priority for the Healey-Driscoll Administration,” said DOER Commissioner Elizabeth Mahony. “These grants offer vital resources for communities to generate their own energy, lower their long-term energy use and improve resiliency, which are all key to achieving energy independence.”

DOER offers META grants annually to support municipalities, regional school districts, and water and wastewater districts with clean energy projects, and fund the services of expert consultants and contractors to assist with a diverse range of local projects. Eligible applicants may apply for grants of up to $25,000. The local projects and studies receiving funding will support the design of solar and battery storage systems; energy resiliency assessments; energy efficiency assessments; building retro-commissioning, which studies a building’s systems to ensure efficiency; and ASHRAE Level II audits, which are in-depth energy audits of commercial buildings.
