Law Day, held nationally every year, serves to educate youths and adults on the legal system and the role of law in our society through presentations and events. The theme for this year's Law Day program was "The Constitution's Promise: Out of Many, One." Visit the American Bar Association's website to learn more about this annual celebration and its history.
At the Franklin Law Library in Greenfield, library staff gave orientations to hundreds of students who visited the library. Students learned all about the library's purpose, the services it provides to the public, and its legal collections.
At the Norfolk Superior Court in Dedham, the Norfolk County Sheriff sang the Star-Spangled Banner, and the recipient of the Bar Association of Norfolk County's Pro Bono Award spoke of the importance of libraries in his acceptance speech. Norfolk Law Library staff designed book displays that highlighted various legal collections in the library, including constitutional law resources, new ABA books, legal research guides, and more. The Head Law Librarian even got to meet the famous Founding Father, John Adams!
At the Plymouth Court Complex, high school students attended a mock trial and there were many CLE presentations for attorneys and judges held in the afternoon. Along with several court departments, the Plymouth Law Library had a table set up on the main floor to explain the services that the law libraries provide to the community. The library's staff also put together a book display and offered refreshments to those who visited the library's space.
