The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has formed an Advisory Committee to advise and make recommendations to the MDPH for development, implementation, and collection of information necessary to determine the incidence and prevalence of Parkinson’s disease in the Commonwealth.
About Parkinson’s Disease Registry and Advisory Committee
The statutory language establishing a Parkinson’s Disease Registry and Advisory Committee can be found in Section 45, p.364 of House, No. 4002.
The statutory language specifies that membership should include representatives who are physicians or persons active in the field of Parkinson’s Disease or public health. The committee should consist of:
- A member appointed by the Commissioner
- Three members who are physicians, one of whom is a general neurologist, one of whom is a movement disorder specialist and one of whom is a primary care physician
- One member who is a health informaticist
- Two members who are population health researchers familiar with registries
- Two members who are Parkinson’s disease researchers
- Two members who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease
