About the bar exam in Massachusetts

Things to know about sitting for the bar exam in Massachusetts

Massachusetts administers the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE).  The UBE is a two day exam consisting of Written portions - the Multi-state Performance Test (MPT) and the Multi-state Essay Exam (MEE) on Tuesday - day 1, and the Multi-State Bar Examination (MBE) on Wednesday- day 2. For more information on the UBE, please see National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE).

The bar exam is currently held in Boston and Springfield, MA.  Exact locations and times are subject to change so it is important for petitioners to be aware of the information pertinent to the current exam. Details will be available prior to the Petition for Admission by Examination filing period.  The Petition must be filed at least 75 days prior to the exam you wish to take.

The locations for the February 2019 bar exam in Massachusetts are:

Boston - Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC),  Boston, MA

Springfield - Western New England University - School of Law (WNEU), Springfield, MA

Examinees will receive 2 emails approximately 1 month prior to the exam with details on exam day information and requirements, the security policy and seating assignment.  You will not receive an admission ticket.

The Board of Bar Examiners will alert examinees of hotel room block links, if available, prior to the exam.  Links to hotel room blocks for the February 2019 will be found below in the additional resources when available..

Bar Exam Dates

July 2018 Bar Exam:

 Exam Dates: Tuesday, July 24th and Wednesday, July 25th, 2018

 Results: July 2018 bar exam results will be released in late October, 2018

 

February 2019 Bar Exam: 

Exam Dates: Tuesday, February 26th and Wednesday, February 27th, 2019

Filing Deadline: The Petition for Admission by Examination for the February 2019 bar exam in Massachusetts will be available in September 2018.  The filing deadline will be established when the Petition becomes available.  

  Exam Locations:

Please note, Springfield seating requests will be accepted during the filing period.  Requests submitted prior to the availability of the Petition for Admission by Examination will be returned.
