CZM Grant Viewer

Find an interactive map of grants provided through the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) and related programs.

This mapping tool allows you to explore grants awarded by CZM from 2014 to present. CZM also administers the Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program (NEP), which maintains a separate grant viewer, and hosted the Massachusetts Bays National Estuary Partnership (MassBays) from 1990 to 2022, which awarded just under $700,000 in grant funding between 2011-2021. It includes grants awarded throughout the Massachusetts Coastal Zone and Massachusetts Coastal Watershed, representing a strong investment in clean estuaries, resilient coasts, and healthy habitats.

How to Use the Viewer

To start, open the CZM Grant Viewer. The text that pops up provides an overview of how to navigate through the maps and use the viewer buttons. In addition to searching by project title and keywords, the grant information can be filtered by grant program, category, year, town/city, CZM region, watershed, and more. Categories include: Construction - Living Shoreline, Construction - Stormwater Infrastructure, Construction - Other Infrastructure, Design & Permitting, Habitat Restoration, Land Protection, Planning & Outreach, Research & Monitoring, and Vulnerability Assessment.

Grant Programs Included in the Viewer

The viewer includes projects funded by these grant programs:

  • Coastal Resilience Grant Program - These CZM grants to municipalities and nonprofit organizations advance innovative local efforts to address coastal flooding, erosion, and sea level rise impacts through communication and public outreach initiatives, vulnerability assessments, planning activities, engineering projects, and natural storm damage protection.
  • Coastal Pollutant Remediation (CPR) Grant Program - These grants provide financial resources to municipalities located in the Massachusetts Coastal Watershed to assess and remediate stormwater pollution from paved surfaces and to design and construct commercial boat waste pumpout facilities. The CPR grants displayed in this viewer date back to 2014. For information on CPR funded grant projects prior to 2014, see the CPR Grant Program web page.
  • Coastal Habitat and Water Quality (CHWQ) Grants - Established by CZM in 2022, the CHWQ grants provide financial resources for projects that access and treat stormwater impacts and support comprehensive habitat restoration planning and implementation activities. The CHWQ grants expand on the project types previously funded by the CPR Grant Program to include planning and implementation projects to restore coastal habitat.
