Introduction

Pursuant to 237 15 “The Board may license without examination any person who has been licensed as a Master or Journeyman electrician or System contractor or technician in another state under laws which, in the opinion of the Board, maintain standards substantially the same as those of the commonwealth for electricians; provided, however, that the state which has already granted licensure has entered a written agreement with the commonwealth giving a like privilege to holders of electricians' licenses issued by the commonwealth.”

The Board has entered such an agreement with the state of New Hampshire for the Journeyman and Master licenses provided such license was obtained by examination in New Hampshire.

Required supporting documents 

Please see the list below specific to the license for which you are applying: 

Journeyman

  • A license verification/certified letter of good standing issued from the New Hampshire Board. The license verification/certified letter shall include the applicant's full name, address, license type and number, shall indicate whether the license is current and in good standing, and shall be certified by an appropriate official and bear the Board seal. A PDF upload of the document is accepted.
  • A completed and notarized Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI)  Authorization Form.
  • A recent, (passport-quality) color photograph of the applicant.
  • If applicable, explanatory documentation detailing all prior or pending disciplinary actions against any professional license held by the applicant in any jurisdiction, foreign or domestic. Please include certified copies of any disciplinary documents or official records of the disciplinary action(s).
  • If applicable, explanatory documentation detailing all prior felony or misdemeanor convictions against the applicant in any jurisdiction, foreign or domestic. Please include copies of certified court records related to the conviction(s).

Master

  • A copy of a current MA Journeyman license or indication of an application also submitted for the Journeyman license by reciprocity.
  • A license verification/certified letter of good standing issued from the New Hampshire Board. The license verification/certified letter shall include the applicant's full name, address, license type and number, shall indicate whether the license is current and in good standing, and shall be certified by an appropriate official and bear the Board seal. A PDF upload of the document is accepted.
  • A completed and notarized Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI)  Authorization Form
  • A recent, (passport-quality) color photograph of the applicant.
  • Documentation of completion of the MA 150hr Master electrician program
  • If applicable, an official letter or certificate of standing for each professional license held by the applicant in any other jurisdiction. Please note that the letter or certificate must have been issued within ninety (90) days of the date of submission of this application.
  • If applicable, an explanatory document detailing all prior or pending disciplinary actions against any professional license held by the applicant in any jurisdiction, foreign or domestic. Please include certified copies of any disciplinary documents or official records of the disciplinary action.
  • If applicable, an explanatory document detailing all prior felony or misdemeanor convictions against the applicant in any jurisdiction, foreign or domestic. Please include copies of certified court records related to the conviction.

Note that an application and all documents uploaded in submittal to the Board for licensure by reciprocity shall become the property of the Board.

How to apply  

All applications must be submitted online through the Division of Occupational Licensure’s (DOL) ePLACE portal.

In addition to completing the informational portions of the online application, applicants are required to upload electronic copies of all supporting documents.

Please review the list above for a summary of the required documents. Applicants are advised to retain original copies of all supporting documents and may be required to submit original copies to the Board if so requested.

    Application review and processing time

    Please note that it takes a minimum of ten (10) business days for the Board to review and approve an application. The Board will only review complete applications. Failure to submit all required information or supporting documents will result in your application being deemed incomplete and subject for denial.
