State Police Bomb Squad

Specially trained Massachusetts State Police personnel are assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The State Police Bomb Squad has about a dozen bomb technicians, including nationally certified explosive detection K9 teams (dogs and handlers), robotic platforms, and other assets. These teams are deployed regionally across the state. As part of the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Section, they have specialized resources available to assist municipal fire and police to conduct fire or explosion investigations. The state’s Bomb Squad has always been in the State Fire Marshals’ office, but has grown from two civilians to the robust team of State Police personnel that can now respond statewide 24 hours per day.
