Required by the Massachusetts legislature, Electric Sector Modernization Plans (ESMPs) are strategic roadmaps to modernize and upgrade the electric grid to enable an affordable, equitable clean energy transition. The electric companies (Eversource, National Grid, and Unitil) submitted their first plans in January 2024. The DPU approved the inaugural ESMPs with modifications in August 2024 and identified several next steps to implement the ESMPs.
