Public Hearing on National Grid Demonstration Program (DPU 24-194)
Overview
Location: Harvey Hearing Room, Winthrop City Hall, 1 Metcalf Square, Winthrop, MA 02152
The Department is conducting an in-person hearing in Winthrop to allow members of the public to comment on National Grid’s petition of its Targeted Electrification Demonstration Program. The goal of this program is to decommission one or more segments of leak-prone gas pipeline through voluntary customer electrification. Under the proposed program, National Grid will offer approximately 118 residential gas customers in Winthrop and Leominster to switch all of their existing gas appliances to electric appliances, including air source heat pumps, at no upfront cost. All customers served by a segment of leak-prone gas pipe will need to agree to participate in order for the gas pipe to be decommissioned through the program. National Grid proposes to recover the costs of the program through a variety of programs and provisions. More details can be found in the notice below.
The public hearing is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on April 9, 2025 in the Harvey Hearing Room in Winthrop City Hall, found at 1 Metcalf Square, Winthrop, MA 02152. There will be Spanish interpretation available at the hearing. If you are unable to join, the Department will also conduct a virtual hearing using Zoom at 7:00 p.m. on April 16, 2025. More information can be found on the Department’s website under Upcoming Events.
