Public Meeting Notice Tech Session on National Grid’s Demonstration Project (DPU 24-194)
Overview
The Department is conducting a technical session on National Grid’s proposed targeted electrification demonstration project, which will decommission existing segments of gas leak-prone pipeline through voluntary customer electrification. Under the proposed program, National Grid will offer approximately 118 residential gas customers in Winthrop and Leominster to switch all of their existing gas appliances to electric appliances, including air source heat pumps, at no upfront costs.
The purpose of this technical session is to gather additional information on key aspects of the proposed project, including:
- Project design including incentive levels, offerings, and scalability
- Use of customer data sharing for integrated electric planning purposes
- Community engagement efforts
- National Grid's request for flexibility in substituting the selected leak-prone pipe segments for alternative segments as needed
- National Grid’s cost recovery proposal
