Central Berkshire Forest Management Projects

Forest Management Proposals and Silviculture Prescriptions are presented by the year in which they were proposed and then further by the Management Forestry District in which they are located. Proposals remain posted until the project is implemented with a timber sale or Home Fuelwood contract. Silviculture Prescriptions remain posted as long as a project is being actively implemented and at least one year after a project is completed. If you are unsure of when a project was proposed but know it’s location check the Management Forestry District map and it’s forester contact list.

Old House Lot, Chester-Blandford State Forest

Proposed June 30, 2021

The Old House Lot forest management project includes plantations of Norway spruce; and natural stands of red maple and aspen with remnant red pine, hemlock, oak-hemlock, and oak-hardwoods.  The work in the non-native plantations is planned to continue their transition to stands of naturally regenerated, native species.  The small red maple-aspen-red pine stand will be managed to expand and add much-needed early successional habitat to the forest.  In the other stands, conditions will be created to allow hemlock to thrive, regenerate red oak (a highly adaptable species under climate for which limited seedlings and saplings are present), and slow the spread of emerald ash borer by reducing ash phloem.
