What you need for Apply for a Limited Liquefied Petroleum (LP) Installer license

To become a limited LP installer, you'll need to submit a Limited LP Installer Examination Application to the Board of Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters. Complete your application by including the following information:

  • Verification of School and Shop Hours Form
  • A Statement of Experience Form including your LP Installer license information
  • Notary seal
  • Criminal Offender Record Information Acknowledgement (CORI) Form
  • A copy of your OSHA 10 Card, certifying at least 10 hours of occupational safety training 
  • A 2” x 2” color passport photo
  • Application Checklist
  • For Veterans: A copy of your DD form 214

Once your application for examination is accepted you can register to take the exam.

Fees for Apply for a Limited Liquefied Petroleum (LP) Installer license

The Board of Examiners collects a non-refundable Application Fee payable to "The Commonwealth of Massachusetts". 

A separate License Fee is charged to you when you pass the exam. Please be prepared to pay this fee at the test center in order to get your license. You can pay by:

  • Credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover)
  • Money order
  • Cashier's check or company check (made payable to PSI Exams).

How to apply Apply for a Limited Liquefied Petroleum (LP) Installer license

To apply online, register for an account using the Massachusetts E-Licensing and E-Permitting Portal also know as ePLACE. This will allow you to apply for licenses, make on-line payments, renew your license and update your contact information through your online account.

Once your application for the Limited LP  Examination has been received, reviewed and approved by the Board of Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters, you can register online to take the exam at a designated testing center. 

Next steps for Apply for a Limited Liquefied Petroleum (LP) Installer license

  1. Get the Board's Approval to Take the Limited LP Installer Exam

    The Board will review your application and either approve or deny your application to take the exam. If your application is incomplete or you haven't completed the minimum education and work experience requirements, the Board will return your original application, any additional documentation to complete the application and a notice explaining why your application was not approved. Incomplete applications will only be kept on file for 180 days. 

    You will be notified of the Board's decision by a third party testing agency called PSI Exams who will help you schedule to take your exam online or in-person at a designated testing center. 

  2. Schedule Your Limited LP Installer Exam

    Once you're approved to take the Limited LP Installer exam, you can register online to take the exam.

  3. Take the Exam

    Take the exam and get your exam score that day. If you don't get a passing score, you may retake the exam within 12 months of the date your exam application was approved by the Board. 

  4. Get your license

    If you pass the Limited LP Installer Examination you can get your license by submitting a licensing fee at the test center.
