What you need for Apply for a Master Gas Fitter license

To become a master gas fitter you'll need to submit a Master Gas Fitter Examination Application to the Board of Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters online. Applications mailed to the board will be returned.  Complete the Master Gas Fitter Examination Application by including the following information:

  • An Education Verification form signed by an official at your school
  • A Statement of Experience Form including your Master Gas Fitter License information
  • Notary seal
  • Criminal Offender Record Information Acknowledgement (CORI) Form
  • A 2” x 2” color passport photo
  • Application Checklist
  • For Veterans: A copy of your DD form 214

Once your application for examination is accepted you can register to take the exam.

Fees for Apply for a Master Gas Fitter license

The Board of Examiners collects a non-refundable Application Fee payable to "The Commonwealth of Massachusetts". 

A separate License Fee is charged to you when you pass the exam. Please be prepared to pay this fee at the test center in order to get your license. You can pay by:

  • Credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover)
  • Money order
  • Cashier's check or company check (made payable to PSI Exams).

How to apply Apply for a Master Gas Fitter license

To apply online, register for an account using the Massachusetts E-Licensing and E-Permitting Portal also know as ePLACE. This will allow you to apply for licenses, make on-line payments, renew your license and update your contact information through your on-line account.

Once your application for the Master Gas Fitter Examination has been received, reviewed and approved by the Board of Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters, you can register online to take the exam

Next steps for Apply for a Master Gas Fitter license

  1. Get the Board's Approval to Take the Master Gas Fitter Exam

    The Board will review your application and either approve or deny your application to take the exam. 

    If your application is approved you will be notified of the Board's decision by a third party testing agency called PSI Exams who will help you schedule to take your exam at a designated testing center. 

    If your application is missing information or you haven't completed the minimum education and work experience requirements, your original application will be returned to you. 

  2. Schedule Your Master Gas Fitter Exam

    Once you're approved to take the Master Gas Fitter Exam, you can register online to take the exam

  3. Take the Exam

    Take the exam at the test site of your choice. After your test, your scores will be available right away. 

    If you don't get a passing score, you may retake the exam within 12 months of the date your exam application was approved by the Board.

  4. Get your license

    If you pass the Master Gas Fitter Exam you can get your license by submitting a licensing fee at the test site.
