What you need
Follow these steps to log in to MyMassGov and change the MFA settings in your personal or business account.
You will need to be able to login, including access to an MFA method currently in your account and access to the new MFA method if you will be replacing a current one.
- Log in to MyMassGov.
- Access your account settings by selecting the link with your email address in the upper right corner.
- Select "Multi-Factor Authentication" on the Account Settings page.
- Select "Update MFA Methods."
- You may need to enter a verification code to edit your account settings.
- You’ll be brought to a "Change your MFA settings" screen where you can choose the setting you’d like to change.
You can also change or remove the phone number in your MFA settings.
How to change
Option 1: Change your authenticator app
To change your authenticator app, follow these steps:
- Select "Authenticator app."
- If you only have one MFA method set up, select "Update Authenticator App."
- If you have more than one MFA option set up, you will have two options:
- Update authenticator app
- Remove authenticator app
- Select "Update authenticator app."
- Open your new authenticator app.
- Use your phone to scan the QR code, or type the account name and key from the MyMassGov page into your new authenticator app.
- Your authenticator app will give you a one-time code.
- Enter this code in the box on the MyMassGov page.
- Select "Continue."
- A confirmation will load on the "Account Settings" page when your change has been successfully completed.
- You’ll receive an email confirming that the name in your account has been removed.
Option 2: Remove your authenticator app
You can only remove your authentication app if you have another MFA method set up. To remove an authentication app, follow these steps:
- Select "Authenticator app."
- If you have more than one MFA option set up, you will have two options:
- Update authenticator app
- Remove authenticator app
- Select "Remove authenticator app."
- Confirm if you would like to remove your authenticator app by selecting "Yes, remove this method" or select "No, keep this method" to cancel the process.
- A confirmation will load on the "Account Settings" page when your change has been successfully completed.
- You’ll receive an email confirming that the name in your account has been updated.
