Check a nurse's license registered in Massachusetts

Visit the Massachusetts Health Professions License Verification site

• For best results, enter at least the nurse's last name and license number
• Spell the name of the nurse correctly as it appears on their license, or provide their license number
• Always use the right license number prefix:
  • RN for Registered Nurses and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. Example: RN123456.
  • LN for Licensed Practical Nurses. Example: LN123456.

Check a nurse's license registered in another U.S. state or territory

To check a nurse's license registered with another Board of Nursing in the United States or its territories, visit the Nursys verification report.

Verify a nursing license outside of the United States

If you need written license verification or a certification of standing for a foreign country or an agency other than a state board of nursing, send a written request to the Board of Registration in Nursing's office with the required $15 fee for this service. The fee may be paid by personal check or money order, payable to the Commonwealth of MA.

Check an Advance Practice Nurse (APRN) Prescriptive Authority

Prescriptive authority is not issued by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. All Board authorized APRNs with prescriptive authority in Massachusetts are registered with the Massachusetts Drug Control Program (DCP). To request information, contact DCP at (617) 983-6700.
