What to Know
In most cases, anyone planning to install and operate a commercial, industrial, or institutional boiler needs to either:
- Certify compliance with specific requirements and performance standards in advance, or
- Apply to MassDEP for an Air Plan Approval.
Some temporary boilers may be installed without site-specific permits from MassDEP, subject to specific emissions and operating limits, and record-keeping requirements ("Permits by Rule"). See Air Plan Approval Applications to learn more.
