Next steps   for Compliance Certification: Commercial, Industrial or Institutional Boiler

  1. What to Know

In most cases, anyone planning to install and operate a commercial, industrial, or institutional boiler needs to either:

    • Certify compliance with specific requirements and performance standards in advance, or
    • Apply to MassDEP for an Air Plan Approval.

Some temporary boilers may be installed without site-specific permits from MassDEP, subject to specific emissions and operating limits, and record-keeping requirements ("Permits by Rule"). See Air Plan Approval Applications to learn more.
