What you need for Order a special license plate to support a favorite cause
You can order a special license plate for your passenger vehicle to support a cause or charitable organization you care about. There are several varieties of special plates available to support your favorite sports team, charitable organization, or environmental cause.
To order a special plate:
- Your registration must be active and in good standing
- You must be the registered owner of the vehicle
Depending on your desired plate, you will also have to pay a fee.

How to order Order a special license plate to support a favorite cause
Plates to support charitable organizations can be ordered online. You will need your:
- Driver's license number.
- Plate type.
- Vehicle registration number and expiration date.
- Email address.
- Applicable payment.
Company-owned and leased vehicles can't order special plates online. These requests must be processed in-person at an RMV Service Center.
Also, if your current registration expires within 2 weeks, you will not be able to order special plates online.
If you need to change your address with the RMV, make that change before starting the online transaction.
Visit an RMV Service Center to order your plate. You will need a completed Registration and Title Application that has been signed and stamped by your insurance agent/company.
Most service centers accept cash, check, or money order. Since payment methods vary by location, check what’s accepted at the site you will be visiting.

Special plates are randomly assigned. You can't request a particular plate number or keep your current plate number.
There are a variety of special passenger plates that cannot be ordered online. For some plates (i.e. Veteran's plates), you must complete an application and show documentation. You can learn more about applying for a special license plate that reflects your unique status. A request for these special plates must be completed in person.
