Update on reporting New Hires

New changes rolled out on June 1, 2022 to the New Hire Reporting process on MassTaxConnect. We communicated with taxpayers via email regarding the changes and updated our website. For information on error codes, the New Hire Record Layout page is a resource, along with the Report New Hires page for general information.

Screen changes if you have 3rd-party access to client accounts

If you have third-party access to more than 100 client accounts on MassTaxConnect, you’ll see some changes to the screen as of June 26. The changes will improve speed and efficiency when you log in to MassTaxConnect. If you are close to having 100 clients, you’ll want to know about these changes as well. Please review the communication that was recently sent to those with third-party access who may be affected.

Sales Tax Holiday dates set

It’s the information everyone has been waiting for. The sales tax holiday date has been set and will take  place on August 13 August 14 this year. The sales tax exemption applies for those two days to any retail purchase in Massachusetts of $2,500 or less with some exceptions. Find out what is and isn’t included in the sales tax exemption holiday by reviewing the FAQs.

Estimating cash vs. credit ends soon

The requirement for meals tax taxpayers to break out cash versus credit was implemented earlier this year. Taxpayers were given some time to implement the new breakout by estimating the amount of cash sales versus credit sales but only through the end of the June 2022 period.

Staying alert

Fraudsters are still busy, even in the “off-season.” Our partners at the IRS are constantly reminding us to stay vigilant against all the online, mail and telephone scams that plague us all. Any “urgent request for immediate payment” or “law enforcement” threats are worth reporting. We have tips for protecting sensitive tax information against identity theft, along with contact information for additional resources.

Turning things around

We understand that you would like to get a response from us as quickly as possible. E-messages are a popular route for communicating with us. We generally turn around e-message responses on income tax queries in one day. You can send us an e-message from the Messages section by clicking “More” when you’re logged in to MassTaxConnect.  For taxpayers who are responding to Information Request notices, we respond in 4.5 days on average.
