A PTE that elected to pay the PTE excise – may not be done…yet

Here’s a tip for Pass-through Entities (PTEs): Remember, a PTE that makes the election to pay the PTE excise must file Form 63D-ELT in addition to its Partnership, S Corporation or Trust return. The Elective PTE Excise FAQ page is a great resource to learn more.

Coming soon: income tax bills

Be on the lookout in June for income tax bills on any outstanding balances for this tax year. Taxpayers can always log in to their MassTaxConnect account anytime to view their balance and make any payments. When a bill is received (Notice of Assessment), the taxpayer can request a payment agreement after logging in to their account if unable to pay the full amount.

Payment agreement application now easier to complete

We’ve made it easier to complete the payment agreement [Form 433i] application. A payment agreement is requested by a taxpayer who cannot pay their tax liability in a lump sum and would like to pay it over time. The new form features many helpful updates. We added a Payment Agreement Details cover page, an Instructions section to assist taxpayers with completing the application and an updated Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Authorization Form. You’ll find the application here.

Registering your boat? There’s a QR Code for that

Looking to register your boat or other recreational vehicles? You can now scan a new QR Code to quickly access the ST-6, ST-6E and ST-7R forms on MassTaxConnect from a mobile device. Taxpayers must complete the form(s) and print a receipt prior to taking the form(s) to the Massachusetts Environmental Police office to complete registration. For assistance, call (617) 887-6400, EXT 1, Monday-Friday 9:00AM - 4:00 PM.

Tax filing extension anyone?

Just a friendly reminder that if you or your clients are on extension to file a personal income or fiduciary tax return, the date to get the return filed is October 17, 2022. An extension is only for additional time to file, not to pay. Any amount due will incur interest even if a valid extension is on file.

Collection activity continues

Heads up for taxpayers with payment agreements: On May 16, 2022, DOR began issuing Intent to Cancel Payment Agreement notices for taxpayers who have not made their agreed-upon payments for 6 months or longer. Taxpayers who continue not to meet the obligations of their payment agreement will be subject to cancellation and will return to active collection enforcement. If you are unable to pay the agreed upon amount of your payment agreement, you may contact DOR to discuss your options. For more information about payment agreements see DOR Payment Agreement Frequently Asked Questions.
