Scheduling hearings or filing appeals

DUA Appeal Documentation:

  • Only DUA guests who have physical documentation to drop off relating to an appeal should come into the Re-Employment Center. All other DUA appeal activities and checking the status of an appeal can be found online. Note: submitting these documents at the Re-Employment Center will not result in your appeal getting processed sooner than other appeal submissions.
  • DUA Hearings support staff assist claimants, employers, and representatives with appeal and hearings related requests.
  • If you need to appeal the DUA’s decision you can file an Appeal online or via mail or fax.

Online: The quickest way to file an appeal is to go online to begin the process by taking the following steps:

  1. Log in to your UI Online account
  2. Click View and maintain in the left pane
  3. Click Monetary and issue summary
  4. Select the issue ID and then click Appeal

Fax: Complete and sign the appeal request and fax to (617) 727-9329.

Mail: There are 2 ways to appeal the decision by mail:

  • Complete the Appeal Request Information Form that was mailed to you with your Notice of Disqualification or
  • Write a letter asking for an appeal. Include your:
    • Phone number
    • Claimant ID
    • Signature
  • Send your completed form or letter to:

Checking the status of a DUA Appeals

Call the Regional Hearings office at (617) 626-5200

Appeal Withdrawals:

The quickest way to withdraw an appeal is to go online to begin the process by taking the following steps:

  1. Log in to your UI Online account
  2. Click View and maintain in the left pane
  3. Click Monetary and issue summary
  4. Select the issue ID and then click Withdraw

    or  

Send a signed letter stating you wish to withdraw your appeal and include name, claimant ID, and Issue ID, and mail to the Hearings Department, 2 Avenue de Lafayette, Boston, MA 02111 or fax to (617) 727-9329.

Missed Hearing Date, Need a New Hearing Date (Reinstatements):

  • Claimants and employers who missed their hearings can request a reinstatement (a new hearing date). To reinstate an appeal, hearings staff must know the reason why the party missed the hearing.
  • A Reinstatement Form must be completed or a written letter with an explanation must be sent to hearings. Instruct the claimant to complete the reinstatement request form included with the Notice of Dismissal, or a letter can be mailed to the DUA Hearings department, 2 Avenue de Lafayette, Boston MA 02111

To request a copy of a completed hearing recording, please contact the DUA Hearings Department at (617) 626-5200.

Subpoenas:  

To request a subpoena please go online to begin the process by taking the following steps:

  1. Log in to your UI Online account
  2. Click View and maintain in the left pane
  3. Click Monetary and issue summary
  4. Select the issue ID and then click Request a Subpoena, or

Call the DUA Hearings Department at (617) 626-5200

You should request a subpoena as soon as possible once your hearing has been scheduled. A DUA subpoena must be served at least four days prior to the hearing date. 
A subpoena may also be obtained from a notary public or justice of the peace.

Filing or checking the status of a PUA Appeals

Unless you have documentation related to your previously filed appeal to drop off, all status and correspondences related to an appeal are available at your individual PUA Profile page.

PUA Appeal Documentation:

Only PUA guests who have physical documentation to drop off relating to an appeal should make an appointment at the Re-Employment Center. All other PUA appeal activities and checking the status of their appeal can be conducted online at your individual PUA Profile pageNote: submitting these documents at the Reemployment Center will not result in your Appeal getting processed sooner than other Appeal submissions.

Online: The quickest way to file a PUA appeal is to go online to begin the process by taking the following steps:

  1. Log in to your eservices account
  2. Click More and select File an appeal and enter determination letter ID
  3. Click Next
  4. Enter the reason for appeal
  5. Click Submit

By mail or fax: Write a letter asking for an appeal. Include your:

  • Name
  • Phone number
  • Claim ID
  • Letter ID
  • Signature

Outstanding issues holding payment

Review or processing of outstanding issues holding payment that need to be address by an DUA adjudication processor (i.e., all necessary documentation and response to questionnaire have been provided):

  • Contact the TeleClaims Center at (617) 626-6800 and select the prompt for Customer Assistance.
  • Document submission: If you need to submit additional information to support your unemployment claim you can do so online by logging in to your UI Online account.

UI/PUA overpayment repayments

UI/PUA overpayment repayments are not supported in the REC.

If you are making a repayment via paper check or money order, please note your applicable claimant ID number on the payment and mail it to:

DOR Child Support services

The REC will not be able to support services or questions related to Department of Revenue (DOR) Child Support Services. For issues related to Department of Revenue Child Support, please visit mass.gov/orgs/child-support-enforcement-division.

Employer services

Employer Services (i.e., Certificate of Compliance or Unemployment Insurance Contributions)

  • The Re-Employment Center will not be able to provide support services or answer questions related to employer concerns nor accept unemployment insurance contributions. 
  • For Unemployment Insurance services and supports for Employers, please visit: www.mass.gov/unemployment-insurance-ui-for-employers

To pay an unemployment insurance contribution please take the following steps:

  1. Log in to your UI Online account.
  2. Click Payment information.
  3. Click Payment account summary to view your account balance.
  4. To view details of your outstanding balance, click on Unpaid debt or Interest calculator.
  5. Click on Make a payment.
  6. Select Payment method and follow the onscreen prompts. Print out the payment confirmation number for your records.

Payments on hold relating to Identity Verification requests

If you received a notice directing you to a new method of verifying your identity please follow the below instructions:

  • You have an identity issue on your claim that is preventing you from being paid. To verify your identity, please use ID.me, a trusted technology partner of the DUA. Visit ID.me to complete the online process within 10 days of this notice.
  • By using ID.me, you can get resolution of the identity issue on your claim within 24-48 hours in most cases. The sooner you complete the verification process, the sooner you will receive benefits.
  • ID.me is a federally-certified identity provider and specializes in digital identity protection. DUA has contracted with ID.me to help make sure you are who you say you are – and not someone pretending to be you – before we pay benefits or grant access to the sensitive information in your UI Online account. More information about ID.me is available at their website: www.id.me/
  • To verify your identity, please visit the Massachusetts DUA’s landing page in English, or Massachusetts DUA’s landing page in Spanish/Español. 

Please note: You must complete the ID.me verification process to receive your benefit payments. Even if you have already submitted fact finding, please follow the instructions on this letter for resolution.

Reporting of fraudulent claim using your personal information

  • If you believe someone has applied for unemployment benefits using your personal information, use our secure fraud reporting form to alert us or call the DUA Customer Service Department at (877) 626-6800.
  • If you would like to report another fraud-related issue, for example, someone hijacked your legitimate claim and changed bank account or MFA information, etc., or other fraud reporting other than a claim was falsely filed on your behalf, please email UIFraud@detma.org.

Housing Verifications are not supported in the REC: Please make your request in writing to the DUA Legal Department:

To file a Complaint with the Mass Commission Against Discrimination; please visit: www.mass.gov/mcad.

Social Security services

(Including new or requesting duplicate cards)
