Registered Apprentice Tax Credit
The Registered Apprenticeship Tax Credit (RATC) provides financial incentives to employers and sponsors who hire and train registered apprentices in eligible occupations. Qualifying employers may claim a tax credit of up to $4,800 per eligible apprentice each tax year, helping offset training costs and support the growth of registered apprenticeship programs across Massachusetts.
To claim the credit, sponsors must meet these requirements:
- The apprentice’s primary place of employment must be in Massachusetts.
- The apprentice works for the sponsor at least 180 days in the taxable year.
- The employer is registered with DAS as a program sponsor and has an approved apprenticeship agreement for each apprentice.
- The employer is in good standing with the Commonwealth, including the Department of Revenue, and has a Department of Unemployment Assistance Certificate of Compliance.
- The apprentice works in an eligible occupation.
