Overview
This datalayer shows the locations of Licensed Child Care Programs in Massachusetts. These programs include preschools, which serve infants through pre-kindergarten aged children, and before and after school programs that serve children through elementary school. This data set is provided by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and was downloaded from the Massachusetts Education-to-Career Research and Data Hub, which pulls the data from EEC's Licensing Education Analytic Database (LEAD).
The layer is called CHILDCARE_PT.
Production
MassGIS developed this datalayer by geocoding program locations sent by EEC and editing addresses and locations as needed. The February 2026 update included a schema overhaul to mimic new data download sources from EEC to streamline future update workflows.
Attributes
The point attribute table contains the following fields:

| PROG_TYPE | Program Type - All are "Center-based Care." Family-based care locations were excluded from this datalayer. |
| LICENSED_FUNDED | Licensed or Funded - All values are "Licensed", not a "Funded" public school that participates in CCFA, which are excluded from this data set. |

Maintenance
The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) will provide any updates to MassGIS. MassGIS will download the data from this database.
