QCML Criteria for Colloidal Silica Finishing Aids (M4.11.1*)

This criteria was qualified by MassDOT as of the date posted: *TO BE PUBLISHED IN 2026

Colloidal silica finishing aids shall be a non-film forming, water-based dispersion of amorphous silica nanoparticles, designed to enhance finishing (901.37) and reduce evaporation during hot conditions (901.33).  Colloidal silica finishing aids shall meet the criteria of the product’s specifications sheet, technical data sheet (TDS), and safety data sheet (SDS), meet the requirements specified herein, meet the local and federal allowable volatile organic compound (VOC) content limits, and maintain qualification on the QCML.

Submittal and Testing Requirements

The following criteria must be met for Colloidal Silica Finishing Aids products, as part of the product submission:

Product Listing, Expiration, and Re-Approval

Once approved, the Colloidal Silica Finishing Aids will be listed on the MassDOT QCML. The product shall remain on the approved list unless one of the following occurs:

  • If the product’s technology changes.
    • If the product formulation or technology changes, the Manufacturer shall notify MassDOT RMS.
  • MassDOT RMS determines that the product no longer meets the minimum requirements.

A written request for re-approval must be submitted to the Department at least 60 days prior to the expiration date for the product to remain on the QCML.
