QCML Criteria for Penetrating Colloidal Silica Compounds*

This criteria was qualified by MassDOT as of the date posted: *M4.12.5 TO BE PUBLISHED IN 2026

Penetrating colloidal silica compounds shall meet the criteria of the product’s specifications sheet, technical data sheet (TDS), and safety data sheet (SDS), meet the requirements specified in Table M4.12.5-1, and maintain qualification on the QCML.

[1] Specimens shall be designed in accordance with exterior slab concrete (M4.06.7).  The control specimens shall be untreated while the tested specimens shall be applied with the penetrating colloidal silica compound in accordance with the Manufacturer’s technical data sheet (TDS). 

Submittal and Testing Requirements

MassDOT Testing Requirements:

The following criteria must be met for Penetrating Colloidal Silica Compounds products, as part of the product submission:

Product Listing, Expiration, and Re-Approval

Once approved, the Penetrating Colloidal Silica Compounds will be listed on the MassDOT QCML. The product shall remain on the approved list unless one of the following occurs:

  • If the product’s technology changes.
    • If the product formulation or technology changes, the Manufacturer shall notify MassDOT RMS.
  • MassDOT RMS determines that the product no longer meets the minimum requirements.

A written request for re-approval must be submitted to the Department at least 60 days prior to the expiration date for the product to remain on the QCML.
