About the Weapon Related Injury Surveillance System (WRISS)

The Weapon-Related Injury Surveillance System (WRISS) collects contextual information on all gunshot wounds and assault-related sharp instrument wounds treated in Massachusetts emergency departments. Since 1994, the system has gathered statewide data from all acute care hospital emergency departments to support violence and injury prevention efforts.
