GREENFIELD — An early morning house fire on Silver Street claimed one person’s life and injured another, said Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan, Greenfield Police Chief Todd Dodge, State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine, and Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan.

The Greenfield Fire Department responded to 52 Silver St. after a 9-1-1 call at about 11:15 last night. The call reported a structure fire with residents trapped inside. On arrival, firefighters found the single-family home fully involved with fire.

Firefighters attacked the fire and made entry to search for occupants. One person was found deceased; the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Another adult was transported to an area hospital. A third reported heating smoke alarms and escaped without physical injury.

The origin and cause of the fire are being investigated by the Greenfield Fire Department, Greenfield Police Department, State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Police assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office. They are supported by the Department of Fire Services’ Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit.
