Having support during pregnancy and in the early days after birth is important, so WIC offers 'Mother to Mother' Peer Counselor support at all 31 local WIC clinics. Peer Counselors have training in breastfeeding support, but more importantly they are moms who have breastfed their babies.
Massachusetts WIC offers individual breastfeeding care before and after a baby is born, as well as assistance in accessing breast pumps. Asking questions during pregnancy and meeting other moms from the community can help a breastfeeding mom be more successful. Many WIC programs offer prenatal breastfeeding classes and breastfeeding support groups after the baby is born. When WIC families choose to breastfeed, they get more food each month.
