Get WIC breastfeeding support services

Breastfeeding might be challenging in the beginning, but the benefits last a lifetime! Our breastfeeding services support you every step of the way.

Services available

Having support during pregnancy and in the early days after birth is important, so WIC offers 'Mother to Mother' Peer Counselor support at all 31 local WIC clinics. Peer Counselors have training in breastfeeding support, but more importantly they are moms who have breastfed their babies.  Participants can also receive individual breastfeeding care during nutrition appointments before and after their baby is born.

WIC will help you get a breast pump, if needed, through your health insurance plan or through WIC’s lending program. A peer counselor can also help you make a plan for pumping when you go back to work or school.

Asking questions during pregnancy and meeting other moms from the community can help a breastfeeding mom be more successful. Many WIC programs offer prenatal breastfeeding classes and breastfeeding support groups after the baby is born. When WIC families choose to breastfeed, they get more food each month.
