Learn about records available through the Registry of Vital Records and Statistics (RVRS)

An average of 250,000 vital events (births, deaths, and marriages) occur in Massachusetts every year. This collected information is the primary research database for health providers, genealogists, historians, demographers, and other researchers.

Looking for specific types of data?

Aggregate data are available in several Department of Public Health publications, electronic databases, or by special request. Confidential data is not released to the public.

The Registry of Vital Records and Statistics does not maintain indexes or records on the Internet. Records are only available on-site at the Registry offices or at the city or town where the event occurred.
