When there is a concern or report of sexual abuse, children deserve to be cared for by a medical professional with expertise in this area. The specially-trained Pediatric SANE nurse at the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) is available to provide this expert care which may include the recommendation that a child have a special exam known as a medical forensic exam. This special exam is important for many reasons: to ensure the health and well-being of the child, to diagnose and treat medical conditions that may be related to the sexual abuse, and to document any possible physical and forensic evidence findings.
